Vaca Muerta Heads Toward a Historic Export Surge Amid the Energy Crisis – Argenports | 22/04/26

A report by the international consultancy Rystad Energy places Vaca Muerta at the center of the new global energy map, projecting strong production growth in a context of rising international prices and supply tensions, which could drive a historic export surge for Argentina. According to the analysis, crude production could increase from around 600,000 barrels per day to 1 million by the end of the decade and up to 1.5 million by 2035, with more optimistic scenarios reaching 1.8 million barrels per day, positioning the Neuquén formation as the most dynamic development in South America. This expansion takes place in a global context marked by energy uncertainty —particularly in regions such as the Middle East— where South America is emerging as a key source of supply growth, reinforcing Argentina’s potential to become a relevant player in the international oil market.
