The Argentine government has approved the construction of a new multipurpose port in the city of Timbúes, Santa Fe province, along the Río Paraná, under the Large-Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI). The investment is US$ 277 million, and the port will handle storage of fertilizers, iron minerals, steel products, grains and fuels, thereby strengthening the Paraná waterway and its strategic role for Argentina’s agriculture and industry. This marks the ninth project approved under the RIGI, bringing total approved investments under the scheme to US$ 24.8 billion. The initiative will consolidate Santa Fe as a key hub of Argentina’s foreign trade, enhance logistics and export chains, reduce transportation times and costs, and boost integration with the bio-oceanic corridor and Mercosur’s port network.
