Mercosur–EU Agreement: Tariff Elimination Will Directly Boost 24 Argentine Productive Sectors – Trade News | 23/05/26

The Mercosur–European Union agreement, which entered into force on May 1, 2026, will have a direct impact on at least 24 Argentine productive sectors through the gradual elimination of tariffs and trade barriers, creating new opportunities to increase exports, investment, and competitiveness. According to the published analysis, the sectors expected to benefit the most are primarily the soybean, beef, and peanut industries, along with activities related to vegetable oils, corn, honey, premium wines, and auto parts, sectors in which Argentina already has export capacity and expansion potential in the European market. The agreement will improve access to a major economic bloc and strengthen the competitive position of Argentine companies against international suppliers, although fully capturing these opportunities will depend on each sector’s ability to adapt to regulatory standards, traceability requirements, rules of origin, and logistics improvements needed to consolidate international market integration.
