Demanded Worldwide: More Than 90,000 Tons of a Fast-Growing Crop Have Already Been Exported – La Nación | 21/05/26

Argentine exports of alfalfa and its derivatives increased 92% during the first quarter of 2026, consolidating an expansion trend that has now lasted for three consecutive years, with shipments reaching 93,974 tonnes between January and March compared to 48,773 tonnes during the same period in 2025. According to the Secretariat of Agriculture, the current pace would allow exports to exceed 190,000 tonnes by the end of the year, generating more than US$75 million FOB, driven mainly by growing demand from markets such as Brazil and countries in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The main production hub is located in southern Córdoba, although significant production also exists in Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, La Pampa, Neuquén, Mendoza, and Santiago del Estero. Beyond its commercial and export relevance, the crop was highlighted for its agronomic value as a soil-enhancing perennial due to its nitrogen-fixing capacity and deep root system, while the government described it as a strategic input both for diversifying exports and for the efficient production of animal protein.  Link to Article
