Argentine ports and terminals handled 1.083 million TEUs during the first half of 2026, including loading, unloading, transit and coastal shipping operations. Between April and June, throughput totaled 498,886 TEUs, down 14.6% from the 584,462 TEUs recorded in the first quarter, with activity remaining heavily concentrated at the main terminals in Buenos Aires. The Port of Buenos Aires handled 514,513 TEUs during the first six months of the year, while Exolgan accounted for 388,000 TEUs; together, the two complexes handled 902,513 TEUs, equivalent to 83.3% of Argentina’s total container traffic. However, their performances moved in opposite directions: throughput at the Port of Buenos Aires increased 9.7%, from 245,336 TEUs in the first quarter to 269,177 TEUs in the second, while Exolgan recorded a 31.7% decline, from 230,572 to 157,428 TEUs, becoming one of the main factors behind the overall contraction in second-quarter volumes. Among other terminals, Terminal Zárate handled 58,973 TEUs during the six-month period, followed by Rosario-Muelle Enapro (TPR) with 47,881 TEUs, Ushuaia with 18,778 TEUs, Puerto Madryn with 15,689 TEUs, La Plata with 14,159 TEUs, San Antonio Este with 11,388 TEUs and Deseado with 8,736 TEUs. The second-quarter decline was mainly driven by lower activity at Exolgan and Terminal Zárate, while Buenos Aires increased its throughput. The figures therefore highlight the high concentration of Argentina’s container traffic in a small number of terminals, making the performance of Buenos Aires and Exolgan particularly important to the country’s import and export supply chains.
