2025/2026 Season: Record Harvest of 169.2 Million Metric Tons – Trade News | 25/08/26

Argentina’s 2025/2026 agricultural season ended with a record harvest of 169.2 million metric tons, up 21% from the previous season, according to IES Consultores. Wheat production reached a high of 27.9 million metric tons, and corn set another record at 71.5 million metric tons, while sunflower production also hit a historic high, and sunflower oil production grew 28.5% year-over-year during the first half of 2026. Soybeans, on the other hand, totaled 49.5 million metric tons, a 3.1% decline, although good yields partially offset the smaller planted area. At the same time, agro-industrial exports rose 16% year-over-year in the first half of the year, reaching US$19,239 million, driven by higher sales volumes, while corn expanded its international presence amid increased demand from China. Profitability showed mixed signals: urea prices fell from US$1,000 to US$550 per metric ton between May and July, and EBE margins are projected to average 20% in 2026, 1.5 percentage points higher than in 2025. For the 2026/2027 crop year, wheat and corn production is expected to return to normal, although the outlook remains positive in terms of volume and exports. Corn is expected to maintain a central role, soybeans will continue to be the crop with the highest export value, and investments of more than US$900 million in processing aim to increase value added. However, profitability will continue to be influenced by logistics and energy costs, export duties, international prices, infrastructure, and operating costs. Link to Article
