The Government Advanced in the Senate with Changes to the Glacier Law and the Bill Will Be Sent to the Chamber of Deputies – La Nación | 26/02/26

The national government secured half-approval in the Senate of a bill to amend the Glacier Protection Law, with narrow support after intense negotiations among political blocs, proposing relaxations that would allow certain productive activities —such as mining and public works— in areas currently under protection; while the ruling party argues the changes aim to provide greater legal certainty and foster investment and development, opposition sectors and environmental organizations warn of risks to water resources and protected ecosystems, in a debate that pits economic activity against environmental preservation, and the initiative must now be debated in the Chamber of Deputies to become law.
