After nine months of continuous work, the Port of Mar del Plata’s governing body completed the most significant maintenance dredging in nearly thirty years. Over one million cubic meters of sediment were removed using the dredger Omvac Diez, enabling the access channels — both exterior and interior — to reach depths of 11.6 and 10.6 metres. The operation also included the turning area and the quay fronts of Pier 2. Funded entirely with the port’s own resources and supported by a loan from Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires, the project improves navigation conditions and allows the port to accommodate larger vessels, enhancing its operational capacity and maritime competitiveness.
