Starting January 1, 2026, Argentina’s Central Bank will revise its exchange rate band system so that the upper and lower limits for the wholesale dollar adjust in line with monthly inflation, rather than a fixed 1 % increase, widening the possible range for exchange rate movements. Based on private forecasts using the Central Bank’s Market Expectations Survey, the ceiling of the band is expected to be about ARS 1,527 in January, and if inflation unfolds as projected, could reach around ARS 1,564 in February, ARS 1,627 in March and up to roughly ARS 1,737 by June 2026, indicating the maximum the wholesale rate could reach within the bands; if the rate exceeds that ceiling, the Central Bank can intervene to contain it. This inflation-linked adjustment aims to correct the lag in the previous system and provide greater flexibility, while supporting broader plans to build reserves and reduce exchange rate uncertainty over the medium term.
