First shipment of wheat bound for Southeast Asia on a wind-powered bulk carrier – Argentports | 12/01/26

Argentina achieved a maritime export milestone by completing the first shipment of wheat to Southeast Asia aboard a wind-assisted bulk carrier. The Pyxis Ocean loaded 35,000 tonnes of Argentine wheat at Punta Quebracho, Puerto San Martín, destined for Vietnam, in an operation conducted for Cargill that merges long-distance grain logistics with innovative sustainable maritime transport technology. Fitted with rigid sail-assisted propulsion that reduces fuel consumption and emissions, the Pyxis Ocean —which had previously operated in Argentina loading corn— is now en route across the ocean after departing last week, highlighting the adoption of more efficient, lower-emission technologies in Argentina’s export chain.
