Copper: Argentina Adds Investments of Over US$10 Billion in Three Years – La Nación | 17/02/26

In just three months Argentine copper mining has seen major announcements totaling investments of over US$10 billion over the next three years, driven by Mendoza’s opening after 25 years of prohibition, the reactivation of Bajo de la Alumbrera, and an initial US$7 billion outlay for the Vicuña megaproject in San Juan; this growth responds to rising global copper demand from the energy transition and improvements in the investment climate following the implementation of the Régimen de Incentivos para Grandes Inversiones (RIGI), with Argentina seeking to join the boom that has cemented Chile and Peru as the world’s top producers, where sustained development could generate foreign exchange comparable to a new agricultural complex and position the country among the major global copper producers.
