The ANPyN conducted its first full-scale audit —a 62-page report— of the Port of Ushuaia, uncovering administrative and financial misallocations, serious deficiencies in infrastructure, maintenance and management, as well as shortfalls in safety, environmental control and operational traceability. Key findings include funds from the Provincial Port Authority redirected to the State of Tierra del Fuego’s social security payments without proper documentation, unaccounted banking differences exceeding ARS 1,400 million, port works investment accounting for only 1.3% of the executed budget, wharves and defenses with structural cracks and corrosion, operations lacking a master plan or scheduled maintenance, no digital port management system, inadequate waste and emissions handling, sub-standard maritime lighting and signaling, and only partial compliance with port protection regime standards. The report warns that these issues jeopardize the port’s operational efficiency, competitiveness and port governance under the national federal port oversight program. Link to Article
