Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University conducted an experiment by creating a fictional company, The Agent Company, staffed entirely by artificial intelligence agents assigned roles such as developers, analysts, and managers. The goal was to evaluate whether AI could run a business without human involvement. The results were discouraging: the top-performing agent, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, completed only 24% of assigned tasks. Major challenges included the inability to interpret implicit instructions, handle common file formats, and perform tasks requiring common sense or social interaction. The study concluded that, despite AI advancements, full autonomy in work environments still faces major limitations, emphasizing the ongoing need for human oversight. Link
